The Man Behind The Machine

This month we take a look at David Blake, co-owner of the family owned Blake Machinery Group. David is a people's person and enjoys providing personalised customer service. From days gone by travelling in cut canoes in Papua New Guinea to his present day trusty Hilux, David likes to be out and about. Read on to learn a little of his background and wealth of experience in the industry.........

David Blake is an owner of the family owned business Blake Machinery Group situated on the Sunshine Coast just north of Brisbane.

David’s background has always been in the Earthmoving Equipment Industry commencing as a Sales Rep with the then NSW Caterpillar dealers Waugh & Josephson Pty Ltd covering the North West and New England Territories for several years. Following on from there he transferred to new sales territory covering the Blue Mountains and Central West NSW. David then accepted a position with the Tutt Bryant Pacific Limited, the then distributors for Komatsu products in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.

Returning to Sydney in 1979 with Tutt Bryant, as NSW State Manager, David was then offered a position with the auction company FR Strange Pty Ltd, later trading as Mason Gray Strange overseeing Truck and Equipment Auctions Australia wide.

After 12 years in that position David with his wife Prue and son Cameron moved to the Sunshine Coast to go into partnership establishing Coastal Equipment Sales/Sunshine Coast Truck Centre. After 17 years the business was sold and David together with his son Cameron set about establishing Blake Machinery Group specialising in the sale and hire of earth moving equipment

Blake Machinery Group, better known as BMG has been in operation since 2010 and in 2015 the business expanded into spare parts. BMG Parts supply new after-market and reconditioned used Volvo Equipment parts and components.

Today as an owner and founding director of Blake Machinery Group, David still clocks up many kilometres for the business but it is a far cry from the travel he did (a lot of the time in cut canoes) to remote places in PNG and the Solomon Islands servicing construction and logging operations. David provides a very personalized approach to the business, spending many hours on the road meeting new and servicing existing clients.

As the parts business has grown David has been very involved in both delivering parts directly to customers and also to freight depots on the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane, ensuring an express service for customers. No job is too big or too small for David if it means getting a part to someone to enable them to get a machine back on the road with minimum downtime.
